Dancing

On a warm October evening this past Saturday, the Junior Class welcomed the freshmen with one final welcome dance of the year. The dance鈥檚 theme was 鈥淥ktoberfest,鈥 a nod to the German traditions of the cozy fall season.

Streamers hung from the lights above St. Gladys Patio, and the decorations embraced traditional German spirit, with a Bavarian flag hung above the fountain, posters featuring soft pretzels, signs pointing to music and apple cider stations, and a cardboard cutout that students could pose behind for photos. Many of the ladies sported dirndls, a traditional German dress, and the men complemented them in their lederhosen.

The night began in St. Cecilia Auditorium with a humorous short film directed by David Zepeda (鈥28). Then, the eager freshmen raced to St. Gladys Patio to discover what the juniors had in store. A firepit sat in one corner for students to roast bread, and tables were decked out with an assortment of bratwurst, pickles, cheese, and crackers.

The junior and freshman men wasted no time in asking the ladies to accompany them on the dance floor, and the evening quickly unfolded into a festive, energetic night. Song after song rang through the patio, and the dance floor was never empty for long as the dancers swiftly found new partners.

鈥淭he welcome dances are such a good way to get to know the freshmen,鈥 said Gianna Darr (鈥28). 鈥淢y class did a beautiful job with our Oktoberfest theme!鈥
