91¶ÌÊÓƵ

Students at Thomas 91¶ÌÊÓƵ College, New England, rallied by the ponds behind St. Frassati Student Center on Saturday afternoon for the annual class-vs.-class tug-of-war.

Decked out in their assigned colors and war paint, members of each class felt a sense of unity and a fierce competitive spirit. First to the rope were the freshmen, dressed in green and eager to prove themselves as the youngest class, versus the seniors, dressed in black and with three years of experience behind them. The freshmen managed to pull themselves to victory, joyfully making way for the next pair: juniors and sophomores.

Though the juniors put up a fight, the sophomores won a decisive victory and quickly switched gears to face the freshmen. For the sophomores, the freshmen were their one obstacle between remaining the reigning class, still running high from their victory last year. For the freshmen, the sophomores were the class to beat for ultimate glory. Thus motivated, both sides assembled along either side of the rope and pulled with all their might.

In the end, the sophomores retained the crown, marking their second year as tug-of-war champions. Their reward? An all-out mud fight, where all four classes pelted each other with shouts and smiles, followed by a refreshing soapy ride down the slip-&-slide.

Following this afternoon of filthy fun, all freshened up and gathered on the lawn in front of the Student Center, where a spread of Mediterranean-style grilled chicken, potatoes, naan, and a variety of dips and sauces welcomed them. While the students’ competitive spirit is strong, their stronger spirit of camaraderie made itself manifest as they joined tutor families to eat and talk well past sunset. It was a relaxing end to an eventful afternoon, marking a successful second week of classes as Saturday came to a close.
