Two coasts, two dates, one new race: Thomas 91Ƶ College’s Alumni & Parent Days arrive in  on September 26 and  on October 17 — and this year, the West Coast debuts the first , two races in honor of the College’s “Jesuit Giant.”

On both campuses, visiting parents, alumni, and their families will get to explore the grounds and buildings, attend Mass and meals, and take part in myriad activities throughout the day. Both events will offer a Socratic seminar on an excerpt of “Treatise on Law,” by American founding father James Wilson, a question-and-answer session on Catholic wills and estates, and a post-dinner wine and cheese reception with President Paul J. O’Reilly. Additionally, the pools will be open and babysitting available during the seminar and reception.

In New England, attendees can expect a busy afternoon of activities, starting when parents and their students face off against alumni in a series of field games, followed by a relaxing Paint & Sip by the ponds. To close the evening, the Class of 2027 will put on a classical concert as a fundraiser for its class gift.

California’s Alumni & Parent Day will feature the annual Cardboard Boat Race, where kids and students build and race their own crafts across the pond. To end the day, the St. Genesius Players, a student theater group, will perform Shakespeare’s The Tempest in St. Cecilia Hall’s Fritz B. Burns Auditorium.

“To alumni, no matter what class or campus you attended as a student, you are welcome to join in the festivities on either campus,” says Sarah Dufresne, director of alumni and parent relations. “To parents, we hope you will come and get a taste of all the College has to offer both you and your children.”

A new addition to the West Coast’s Alumni and Parent Day this year is the inaugural , named after Rev. Cornelius M. Buckley, S.J., who served as the California campus’s chaplain for 17 years. Participants can choose between two courses: the “Cornelius Course,” a 5k distance run — or walk! — on the scenic painter’s shack loop, or the “Buckley Bolt,” a one-mile sprint or stroll around the ponds. All ages are welcome to participate, and there will be prizes for the winners of each race.

“We are thrilled to honor our beloved former chaplain, Fr. Buckley, in the form of this event,” Miss Dufresne shares. “I encourage everyone coming to California’s Alumni and Parent Day to ! Whether you walk the course with friends or race your peers for the win, I guarantee it will be a great experience.”

Both Alumni and Parent Days are free of charge to all parents, grandparents, alumni and their families. Seminar readings will be shared upon registration.
